Finding a House to Buy
If you are looking to buy a house then one of the first things you need to do is to find a house that suits you. Before you start looking at actual houses you would do well to sit down and decide what you actually want from this move. So, for example, you should:
- Think about where you want to live
- Think about what you can afford
- Think about what kind of houses you like
- Think about how big the house needs to be
- Think about what else you need from a property - i.e. a garage, drive and garden
There are many ways to find houses on the market at the moment. The traditional route of using an estate agent still works for many people. So, a visit to a few local estate agents will give you an idea of what is available in the area(s) in which you are looking. It is also worthwhile registering what you want with estate agents so that they can contact you as and when new properties come on the market. If you are unsure which estate agents are handling properties in a particular area then take a drive or a walk around the area(s) in which you are looking and look for their signs.
Many estate agents will also have online listings for the properties which they are selling and there are also websites out there that you can use to find other properties that may not be available through an estate agent. A lot more people are taking the online route when selling a property and it's also worth looking at local newspapers for the area(s) you have chosen as they may also contain private sales.
If you cannot find houses in particular areas then you can also think about doing your own mailshot to see if anyone might be interested in selling their house. All you need to do here is to make up some flyers or leaflets saying that you would be interested in buying in their street, for example, to see if anyone gets in touch.
